Spirituality Week : )

June 15, 2017

During school, we have all been learning about how we can be spiritual and why spirituality week is important to us. We have been doing stations with the year 5 to help us. But first Mr Curry explained what spiritually is. It is being closer to God and being calm. My favorite station was the pebbles. We were making pebbles warmer like God makes us. When we dropped the pebbles the bubbles reminded us of God’s love for us.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for making me a wonderful world including my family and all my friends and for blessing our world please look after people in need. Please also look after children in third world countries who are less fortunate than me. And I am very thankful for schools, teachers, and the whole earth and mostly thankful for having Jesus.

Help us to always remember to say a big thank you to you for the wonderful world you have made and for all the things you have given us. For the beautiful sun, the rain(to make things grow), sea and the sky,  flowers and birds and for all the wild creatures in the garden and especially for giving me a supportive family, beautiful friends and kids teachers.

Holy Week

April 19, 2017

                                        Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is the first Day of Holy Week. Jesus chose a donkey to show that he had come in peace. Jesus sent two disciples, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” said Jesus. Then the two disciples came with the donkey. The disciples put their coats on the donkey for Jesus. Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem. People put their coats and palms on the floor. Many people welcomed Jesus by shouting, waving palm branches and throwing branches at him.

“Praise God, God’s King is coming,” shouted the crowd.

                                Maundy Thursday

Judas had made a deal with some of the officers, that if he handed Jesus to them, they would pay him with 30 silver coins. They decided that he would kiss Jesus to show the officers who he was.

On the night before Jesus’s death, Jesus had a final meal with his friends. This was called the Last Supper. Before this festival meal for Passover, Jesus surprised his friends by washing the feet of every person, a task that was normally done by a servant. He wanted to show his follower how to serve others. Later in the meal, Jesus passed round bread and wine. He said the bread was his body broken for them and the wine was his blood shared out for them. He was telling them that he was going to die and that when they share bread and wine they should remember him. Jesus said whoever he would give the bread to first, will betray him. Jesus also told his friends that they should love one another. Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”  Then Jesus went a little bit further and prayed. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them exhausted. Judas approached Jesus to kiss him.

                                  Good Friday

The guards took Jesus to Pontius Pilate, because he couldn’t be killed without his permission. They told Pilate that Jesus had claimed to be the King of the Jews. When he asked Jesus if this was true, all Jesus said was “That’s what you say.” He refused to answer anymore of Pilate’s questions. Pilate could not find anything wrong with Jesus, but the crowds kept shouting “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” Because it was Passover, Pilate tried to make a deal with the crowds. He offered to release Barabbas, a really bad criminal, but the Jews wanted Jesus to be crucified instead. He then washed his hands in a bowl to show that Jesus was no longer his responsibility, and the people could do whatever they wanted with him. Meanwhile, Peter joined a group of people around a fire in the courtyard. Suddenly, a slave girl noticed him, and approached him. “You were that man with Jesus” because he didn’t want to be killed he replied,”No, I do not know him.” Then, a while after, another person asked him,”Weren’t you a follower of Jesus?” For the second time, he denied it. Later on a third person asked him,”You come from Galilee. You must know Jesus.” “No I don’t!”  At that very moment, the cock crowed, and Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him the night before. He told him that before the cock crowed, you will have betrayed me three times. Peter left the courtyard, weeping. The soldiers then put a crown of thorns on his head, and whipped him so hard he was bleeding all over. People would also mock and spit at him. Then he was given the cross to carry to Golgotha, where he was crucified. On the journey there, Jesus fell down 3 times, Veronica wiped the sweat off his face with a cloth, and Simon of Cyrene helped him to carry the Cross. When they finally got there, the soldiers nailed Jesus’ hands and feet to the cross. They also put a sign over his head, saying “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” They then put the cross up, and Jesus was in great pain, so the soldiers offered him some drugged wine, but he didn’t want any. Jesus prayed to God saying, “Father, please forgive them. They do not know what they are doing.” There were two thieves also on crosses on either side of Him. The Jews from before had gathered around the cross and were jeering at him. One of the first thieves joined in and said, “If you are really the King of the Jews, save yourself, and us too!”. But the other thief said,”We deserve to be punished, but not Him!” He turned to Jesus and said,”Please remember me when you enter your Kingdom.” Under the cross, the soldiers were throwing dice to see who would win Jesus’ clothes. Suddenly at midday, the sky went dark, and for the next 3 hours, there was no light. Jesus cried aloud, “My God! My God! Why have you left me to suffer?” At 3 o’clock, Jesus gave a terrible cry, and said, “It is finished! Father into Your hands I place my spirit!” And then he died. Later that day, Joseph from Arimathea arrived. He believed in and followed Jesus, and got permission from Pilate to take Jesus’ body away and bury it. Joseph and Nicodemus prepared Jesus’ body. They wrapped it in fine linen, and special spices, and took it to a tomb that had just been dug out of the rock.

                                       Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday,we remember the time when Jesus rose from the dead. It all started on Good Friday. Jesus was crucified and was then put in a tomb. The next day, a friend of Jesus went to the tomb. She was astonished to find the huge stone had been moved and the body had gone. Mary, weeping, was approached by a man she did not know, who asked why she was crying. She explained that it was because they had taken her Lord away. The man was Jesus risen from the dead.
